Twitter accounts of Pope Benedict XVI are launched. In all, there are seven accounts in 7 different languages. The most popular is English with nearly 800,000 subscribers. French is among the least popular with only a little more than 23,000 subscribers. The first messages of the Pope were fairly simple like: “Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.” The Pope’s arrival on Twitter has led some critics but overall the action is viewed positively as a major religious institutions opening to the modern communication technologies.
Personally, although I am an atheist, I prefer this kind of actions rather than the actions of extremists and terrorists often done by some other religions who do not hesitate to go to war and to kill in order to convince…
We can compare Pope Benedict XVI at other intellectuals and peaceful character as are the Dalai Lama or Nelson Mandela.
